The Genesis

How HUM Communities Began

"India retires its best people too early. And its most ambitious businesses scale without the experience that could change everything."

The story of HUM Communities began with a simple observation. Kritarth Malhotra kept meeting extraordinary people - former plant heads, PSU directors, defence veterans - who had spent thirty years building some of India's most demanding organisations and were now sitting on the sidelines. Not by choice. Simply because they had crossed an arbitrary retirement age.

One of them was Mr. Ramesh Vij, a 79-year-young engineer whose judgement and instinct were as sharp as ever. He wasn't looking for rest. He was looking for a business that needed what he had spent a lifetime building.

On the other side of this equation were businesses - ambitious, cash-generating, growing fast - but hitting a ceiling that capital alone couldn't fix. They needed someone who had already navigated the exact territory they were entering. Someone who could sit across the table, not as just a consultant with a framework, but as a peer who had been there.
